Multiplication

There are two different ways of solving multiplication.  The first is the traditional way that many adults learned.  The second is called the lattice method.  This is where a lattice is formed and students multiply very much like the traditional way but for some students this is an easier way to multiply.  The following links takes you to a teacher walking through the same problem with the two different methods.

Division

There are also two different ways of solving division.  The first is called long division or the traditional way that many adults learned.  This process require that students have a good grasp of their math facts.  The second method is called partial quotient method.  The nice part of using this algorithm is that you can use any math facts to get to the answer and then add up at the end.  So a student doesn't have to be as strong with their math facts.  A bit more time consuming but does get to the correct answer at the end.  The following links takes you to a teacher walking through the same problem with the two different methods.  With the partial quotient method, there are two examples to show how you can use any math fact a student knows.
